Amazon is buying mesh router company Eero

Amazon has announced that it’s acquiring Eero, the maker of mesh home routers. Amazon says buying Eero and its technology will help its mission to advance the smart home — and it will certainly make Alexa-compatible gadgets easier to set up if Amazon also owns the router.

We are incredibly impressed with the eero team and how quickly they invented a WiFi solution that makes connected devices just work,” Dave Limp, Amazon’s SVP of devices, said. “We have a shared vision that the smart home experience can get even easier, and we’re committed to continue innovating on behalf of customers.”

Eero kicked off a wave of “smart” mesh router setups designed to overcome the coverage issues of traditional routers.
