Amazon has announced that it’s acquiring Eero, the maker of mesh home routers. Amazon says buying Eero and its technology will help its mission to advance the smart home — and it will certainly make Alexa-compatible gadgets easier to set up if Amazon also owns the router.
“We are incredibly impressed with the eero team and how quickly they invented a WiFi solution that makes connected devices just work,” Dave Limp, Amazon’s SVP of devices, said. “We have a shared vision that the smart home experience can get even easier, and we’re committed to continue innovating on behalf of customers.”
Eero kicked off a wave of “smart” mesh router setups designed to overcome the coverage issues of traditional routers.
