Apple App Store won’t let you download apps? Live updates on the apparent App Store outage

Just a day after unveiling a new iPad mini, Apple’s App Store seems to be having some issues. We’re tracking a flurry of reported issues downloading on social networks like Threads and X (formerly Twitter) and testing it ourselves.

While you can still browse the App Store and search for applications, the issue occurs when trying to download one with the store typically canceling the action without explanation. That’s the case for me and TechRadar’s Editor-at-Large Lance Ulanoff, both trying to download various app on iPhones.

Down Detector is also seeing a spike in reported outages from users, with the App Store on the site hitting 2,547 reports as of 11:13AM ET. Separately, the Apple Store as a whole as well as Apple support, Apple Pay, Apple Music, and iTunes are seeing reported spikes on the site. Those are not in the thousands as of yet, though.

As TechRadar does, we’re tracking the issue and follow along below as we share live reports on what might be a partial outage with the App Store, or at least an issue with downloading apps.

Here’s a live look at the reported outages on Down Detector.

As of now, I can still browse the App Store and search for apps, but the issue arises when trying to download an entirely new app or one that I’ve previously purchased on my iPhone.

This is what downloading an app from the App Store currently looks like as of 11:30AM ET on October 16, 2024.
