Game of Thrones wins Outstanding Drama Series at The Emmys

After a seventh season that ventured well beyond The Wall — and the stories laid out in the George R. R. Martin novels — Game of Thrones won Outstanding Drama Series at the 70th Emmy Awards, beating out critical and fan favorites like The Americans, The Handmaid’s Tale, Stranger Things, This Is Us and Westworld. The win comes despite numerous complaints from fans and critics that the show lost some of its luster during the its recent season, with plot developments that made little sense and dialogue that didn’t feel as sharp without the Martin books as source material.
